About Hoedspruit
Hoedspruit (Afrikaans for Hat Creek) is a small tourism and agriculturally orientated town situated at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg Mountains in the Limopopo province of South Africa. The town is nestled between the famous Kruger National Park and the panoramic Blyde River Canyon. In just under an hour, you can fly from Johannesburg to the Hoedspruit airport and then a short 30 minute drive by car will have you at the African Dream Tour doorstep.
Hoedspruit is entrenched in history with the very first official landowner, Dawid Johannes Joubert, arriving in the lowveld in 1844 where he settles in the area between the Blyde River and what is now know as the Zandspruit. During a major cloud burst soon after Dawid Johannes Joubert arrived in the area, the “now called Zandspruit” came down in a flash flood and he ended up loosing his hat in the flooding river and so was born the towns’ name, Hoedspruit.
